The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has officially approved the design of the country’s first hybrid heliport at Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, Zayed Port, marking a major leap in future-ready urban air mobility.

A Landmark for Sustainable Air Transport

Designed to support both traditional helicopters and electric air taxis (eVTOLs), this cutting-edge facility paves the way for eco-friendly, efficient travel across Abu Dhabi. Developed in partnership with AD Ports Group, Falcon Aviation Services, and Archer Aviation, the heliport will serve as a key hub for Abu Dhabi’s upcoming air taxi network, with commercial operations expected by 2026.

Why This Location?

Strategically positioned at Zayed Port’s Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, the heliport will enhance connectivity for over 650,000 annual cruise visitors, offering seamless access to top attractions like:

  • Louvre Abu Dhabi
  • Saadiyat Cultural District
  • Falcon Aviation’s sightseeing heli-tours

Leveraging Existing Infrastructure for Faster Deployment

Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer at Archer Aviation, highlighted that Abu Dhabi’s 70+ existing helipads could be upgraded for eVTOL operations, minimizing costs and accelerating rollout. Archer’s Midnight air taxi is set to begin test flights this summer, with plans for full-scale commercial services by 2026.

Pioneering Global Aviation Standards

The GCAA is leading the world in establishing hybrid heliport regulations, ensuring safe integration of helicopters and eVTOLs. These standards will be finalized by July 2025, reinforcing the UAE’s position as an advanced air mobility (AAM) leader.

Leadership Insights

  • Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi (GCAA Director-General): “This hybrid heliport is a transformative step toward sustainable, high-tech urban air transport.”
  • Adam Goldstein (Archer Aviation CEO): “Using existing infrastructure lets us launch faster and safer—key to scaling air taxis across the UAE.”

What’s Next?

With Abu Dhabi Air Taxi services on track for 2026, this hybrid heliport sets the stage for a revolution in smart, emission-free travel—bridging tourism, business, and urban mobility like never before.
